Impeller Gray Iron Casting with Industrial Paint Finish

Impeller Gray Iron Casting with Industrial Paint Finish

Phenix Foundry recently produced a gray iron industrial impeller with machining, surface preparation, and a finished paint coating, providing our customer with a durable, production-ready component while simplifying the transition from casting through final finishing.

Project Snapshot

Industry: Industrial
Application: Industrial equipment
Component: Impeller
Material: Gray iron
Process: Green sand casting
Scope: Casting + machining, surface preparation, and coating through affiliate
Metal Goods Manufacturing

Customer Challenge

This impeller required a casting process capable of consistently reproducing its curved vane geometry and integrated features—while maintaining the dimensional stability and repeatability needed for the finished component. Gray iron was well suited to the application, offering excellent machinability, vibration damping, stiffness, and durability in a cost-effective cast material. These properties make gray iron a strong choice for industrial components where dimensional consistency and reliable performance are important.

The finished impeller also required machining of critical surfaces, along with surface preparation and a uniform industrial coating. Through its affiliate Metal Goods Manufacturing, Phenix was able to coordinate these operations as part of a single streamlined workflow—minimizing handoffs and delivering a finished component ready for use or assembly.

Production Approach

Phenix Foundry produced the impeller using its controlled green sand casting process, with attention to the geometry and section transitions required by the customer's design. Following casting and cleaning, the component was machined to its required finished dimensions and prepared for coating.

Through affiliate Metal Goods Manufacturing, the casting received surface preparation and an industrial paint coating.

Delivered Value

  • Consistent reproduction of complex impeller geometry
  • Reliable gray iron casting quality for industrial service
  • Machined critical surfaces to support finished component requirements
  • Surface preparation and uniform industrial coating for a finished, production-ready component
  • Finished component ready for use or downstream assembly
  • Fewer production handoffs by coordinating casting, machining, and finishing through affiliated capabilities

Where This Applies

This approach is well-suited for:

  • Industrial impellers and fluid-handling components
  • Pump and equipment components
  • Complex castings requiring machining and a finished surface
  • Repeat production where casting consistency and finishing quality are important
