6" Cage Clamp: Ductile Iron Casting Production

6

Phenix Foundry provides a continuous supply of high-strength ductile iron castings for KC Welding’s heavy-duty toggle clamp assemblies. Used in industrial pipe welding and fabrication operations, cage type line toggle clamps help secure, align, and position pipe components during fit-up, welding, and fabrication.

Designed for demanding load bearing and alignment applications, the cast components require the strength, toughness, durability, and dimensional consistency that ductile iron provides. The resulting castings deliver reliable performance in rugged field environments while supporting repeatable manufacturing and assembly processes.

Through ongoing casting production, Phenix Foundry supports KC Welding’s fabrication operations with consistent, production-ready components manufactured to meet repeatable quality and performance requirements.

Project Snapshot

• Industry: Oil & Gas / Industrial Pipe Fabrication
• Application: Pipe alignment & welding clamp assemblies
• Component: Cage clamp cast components
• Material: Ductile Iron
• Process: Green sand casting
• Scope: Ongoing casting production by Phenix Foundry; machining, assembly, and finishing by affiliate KC Welding

Customer Challenge

The component requires durable cast structures capable of handling repeated clamping forces, field use, and heavy load-bearing conditions without compromising dimensional consistency. Maintaining casting integrity across reinforced sections, pivot points, and mounting features is important to supporting reliable clamp performance and minimizing downstream machining adjustments during assembly.

Ongoing production also requires repeatable casting quality to support manufacturing schedules and interchangeable assembly components across multiple clamp configurations.

Production Approach

Phenix Foundry utilizes a green sand molding process to produce the ductile iron clamp components with attention to structural integrity, dimensional repeatability, and efficient production flow. Ductile iron is selected for its combination of strength, toughness, impact resistance, and long-term durability under repeated mechanical loading conditions.

Casting strategy focuses on maintaining consistent material flow and solidification through reinforced sections and geometry transitions while supporting efficient finishing and machining operations. Coordination with KC Welding’s machining and assembly operations helps maintain alignment between casting tolerances and downstream production requirements.
